Pros
Very easy job with decent pay, if you don't mind constantly being talked down to. Office locations are also a plus.
Cons
Very old school mentality. Questionable audit practices, lack of flexibility, and HEAVY favoritism. Very standard promotions after a set amount of time. Poor research and analysis resources. "Upper Management" is completely toxic. There are much better CPA firms out there for your professional and personal development. Choose one of them.

Thank you for your time spent helping to service Spicer Jeffries LLP's valued clients; we appreciate your years of dedication to the firm, our clients and the greater financial services and accounting industry. If you were not aware, our industry's Oversight Agencies have and continue to perform Peer Reviews of Spicer Jeffries LLP. These Peer Reviews are performed 2 of 3 years, by both the AICPA and PCAOB separately, and the firm has passed ALL Peer Reviews thus performed. Our employees continue to be a cornerstone of the firm's success and it is a primary goal of Spicer Jeffries' management to improve the accessibility, communications, knowledge, and overall benefits offered the employees. For instance, we employee industry recognized RIA & CCH online research analysis tools. SJ strives to provide a competitive compensation and benefits package that encourages both professional and personal growth. Many new employees have earned their CPA licensing while working at Spicer Jeffries, enabling them to take advantage of our CPA Exam and Class Reimbursement program, as well earning a CPA Success Bonus, paid in a separate payroll bonus check. On an annual basis, the Firm's management (which includes the partners, managers and supervisors) meets to determine staff promotions. During these meetings, each individual staff member is evaluated for promotion based on their individual merits, including technical proficiency, experience gained during the most recent busy season (including the amount of work completed), ability to train and supervise others. Based on this criteria, the management group determines the path for promotion and in some rare cases, we have promoted certain individuals to senior after their second busy season and to manager after five busy seasons.

Pros
Spicer Jeffries LLP is an overall great place to work. Yes, it can get overwhelming at times, but what public accounting firm doesn't. The firm has a great culture and an open door mentality with the Partners available at any time to help answer questions or concerns. It is a great place to start your career with lots of future opportunity for growth and to move up within the Firm.
Cons
Lots of hours during busy season, but it is to be expected, and also well compensated for.

Pros
I've been working at Spicer Jeffries for a little bit over a year now. Right from the start they give you in-depth, comprehensive, and hands-on training. They encourage you to ask questions and Bob has always stressed that you can go to him with any problems you might be experiencing. My reviewers have always been open and honest with me, and I feel comfortable and confident going to them if I need something. The office is, in general, a very relaxed and easy-going place to work. That's not to say that they don't expect a lot from you, but it isn't without reward. And there are plenty of rewards- everything from the amount of PTO to health insurance. It's nice to be in an office where I not only feel like I can grow and improve, but also feel that my time and effort are appreciated. Overall, I love working here and am excited to grow with the Firm.
Cons
The hours are always going to be long during season, regardless of where you work. To me, all of the other benefits far outweigh the hours during season.

Pros
-Great opportunity to work in the very competitive securities industry -Talented group of reviewers which is crucial to your success in the first 2 years -Pay (above industry average) -Interesting work
Cons
-Long hours during busy season -The firm trains first years in audit and tax (to be able to assist clients more effectively)
-
Current Employee, less than 1 year
Pros
Extensive training program prior to your first busy season, which helped ease the transition from college to working at a public accounting firm. I was very impressed with the hands on training approach led by a great team of seniors. The firm also has an open door policy from the seniors all the way up to the partners, which made it easy to ask questions throughout my first season. Aside from the work aspect the office has a terrific culture, with many of the staff hanging out after work which makes the overall environment much more enjoyable.
Cons
There is no escaping the grind of a CPA firm during busy season, however to help makeup for the long hours put in during season the firm provides ample down time and flex hours throughout the off season.
